Launch of Post Office Plus pilot branches
Post Office Plus: innovation in action
Post Office has been at the heart of local communities for generations and remains committed to the future of the UK’s high streets. As the UK's largest retail network, we have a responsibility, and an opportunity, to keep evolving what we offer so that branches remain relevant to the people we serve.
Post Office Plus is an exciting new pilot that builds on that commitment, so post offices can play an even bigger role in supporting communities and revitalising high streets.
In many ways, it’s a simple idea: we’re transforming selected Post Office branches into modern community hubs by creating a dedicated space for trusted partner organisations to offer face-to-face support on different days of the week - alongside the counter services our branches already provide. We want to support people for the moments that matter most to people - be it getting support with their bills, planning their will, or improving digital skills – in high street locations that people already know, use and trust.
But simple ideas can be some of the most significant, and Post Office Plus is one of the clearest examples of our five-year Transformation Plan in action.
We’ve listened to customers
Post Office Plus is in direct response to consumer research, showing customers want trusted, face-to-face support for life's important moments. Our research found that:
- 53% would be likely to use digital skills training delivered locally.
- 49% would be likely to use energy switching services delivered locally.
- 49% would be likely to use will-writing guidance delivered locally.
- 75% of 16-34 year olds said they would find in-person guidance relevant.
In a world where more services have moved online, many people still want to sit down with someone they trust and talk things through, particularly when making important decisions. We are uniquely placed to meet that need through our reach and trusted presence in communities across the UK.
We are opening our doors to host trusted organisations in our branches on different days of the week, starting with our founding partners:
- Utility Warehouse, and its network of people around the UK, help customers save time and money by offering energy, mobile, and broadband together in one place
- Octopus Legacy will help people put later-life plans in place, including wills, lasting power of attorney, trusts and estate planning
- Good Things Foundation, sponsored by Amazon Web Services, will support people to build confidence online, from basic digital skills to internet safety and everyday online tasks
A commercial model, not just a community service
Post Office Plus is more than a community initiative that delivers real value for our customers: it is also an opportunity to support long-term commercial growth for our network. At the heart of our Transformation Plan is a commitment to building a more sustainable, resilient business for the postmasters, partners and communities who depend on us - and that means creating new opportunities for revenue alongside our existing services.
Post Office Plus gives our partners a new channel to reach customers, postmasters a new way to grow their businesses, and Post Office a new, model that we believe has the potential to scale nationwide in the years ahead.
We’re launching deliberately with a handful of stores, including our first two sites in Barnsley and Derby, because we want to learn before we scale. We plan to expand Post Office Plus into more branches across the UK throughout autumn 2026, bringing more partners on board as we do, and using what we learn from postmasters, partners and customers at every stage to refine our approach.
How we’re transforming
Post Office Plus doesn't operate isolation - it's one way we’re transforming our business to build a stronger, simpler and more sustainable Post Office for the future.
It’s an early example of what our Transformation Plan is designed to deliver: a Post Office that continues to evolve commercially, creates new opportunities for postmasters and partners, and maintains its place at the centre of UK high streets for generations to come.
